At this age, the child is exploring and learning to express his/her emotions. He/she’ll do this in many ways – for example, by talking, using gestures and noises, painting and making things.

Children can depict details in their drawings – nose, hair, etc. Construction activities become more complicated and can include 5-6 parts. 

The child's motor sphere is characterized by positive changes in fine and gross motor skills. Agility and coordination of movements are developed. Children at this age maintain balance better, step over small obstacles. Ball games are getting harder.

Spatial orientation is improving. The memory is increasing. Children memorize up to 7-8 names of objects. Voluntary memorization is starting to shape.

By the end of middle preschool age, children's perception becomes more developed. The stability of attention increases. Concentrated activity can last for 15–20 minutes. He/she is able to memorize and perform sequence of actions with a simple condition.

The imagination is actively developing. Children can independently come up with a small story or tale on a given topic.

In middle preschool age, pronunciation of sounds improves. Speech is fluent. The grammatical side of speech is developing.

The content of communication between a child and an adult changes. It goes beyond the specific situation. The information that a child receives in the process of communication can be complex and difficult to understand, but it piques his interest. Acute sensitivity is an age-related phenomenon.

Relationships with peers are characterized by selectivity, children prefer to play with some friends over others. Competition and leadership are shaped at this age. 

The main achievements of age are related to:

• the differentiation of the play role and real interactions;
• the development of visual activity;
• drawing, construction skills;
• improvement of perception and other cognitive abilities;
• development of memory, attention, speech, cognitive motivation;
